I seem to be hearing random gunshots almost weekly now....anywhere from 8-15 at a time. They are coming from 'across the tracks' or maybe even in that field. I call 911 every time but of course the shooters are never found.
I was about to pull out of my garage this morning when another barage began...so I had to wait before I left for work.
I am sick to death of this!

Anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do about it?

Did you see the online article about random shooting last Wednesday (the 23rd)? Here is a link to view the article:

Are you near this same area?

I did not see this article till just now. I'm not surprised. I live off of Jasoncrest and Lawler backing up to the RR tracks there. The other night the shots were so close my son and I fell to the ground in the kitchen thinking we were being shot at. Not to mention my dogs were going crazy.
I'm really worried with New Year's Eve tomorrow night.

This is no way to live...

    So, any suggestions?

A neighbor on Cimmaron East asked this morning if we heard shots around 6:30 a.m. today. We did not, but he was in his garage and heard about nine shots from two bursts.

What I have been hearing most the last couple of days has been fireworks - more specifically, firecrackers - coming from the tracks area. These do sound like gunfire as well so there has been a healthy mix of both. Unfortunately, this practice is not just in "rough neightborhoods" anymore. There are a lot of "respectable" folks who get a little liquored up on holidays and decide to go celebrate with their perfectly legal concealed carry weapons. Sometimes media coverage of an issue only inspires others who hadn't thought of it previously. Bottom line though - always call it in as previous posts encourage.

That's a good point, about firecrackers sounding like gun shots. They do indeed! Are you certain what you are hearing is gun fire, and not firecrackers? It is extremely hard to tell the difference between the sound of a handgun firing and the sound of firecrackers (or even a car backfiring, for that matter).

Around New Years and 4th of July there is a lot of firecracker activity. Perhaps that is what you are hearing.

    Just a thought.

Right about fireworks over New Years. I didn't even call those in as I could tell the difference. The gunshots are similar but distinguishable from where I am. I have lived here a long time and have never worried about the fireworks other than they are annoying; these sounds over the last couple months are different.
