    Hi Everyone!

My husband and I and our six adopted kids moved into WHN in December of 2008. We look forward to meeting more people here as we get our roots deep here in Dallas!

I am training with Team in Training to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and will be running a 1/2 marathon on May 16 here in Dallas in honor of my late father who died almost 14 years ago of leukemia.

I am posting my personal fundraising page in hopes of garnering support for this very worthy cause. Every 4 minutes someone in America is diagnosed with blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone dies. This last year alone the North Texas Chapter (Go Dallas!!) raised 4.1 million for cancer research and patient care.

Please consider donating to LLS and help me meet my fundraising goal of 1,800 by April 4. You can visit my website below to donate!

I think it's great what you're doing, Niki!

I want to share my reason for donating. Her name is Ariana. She is the granddaughter of my friend Julie. Ariana just turned 7, and she's been battling leukemia since she was 5. This saddens me greatly. My own granddaughter is 6 and I cannot imagine her having to deal with such a horrid disease. Little girls ought to be playing with dolls and pretending to be princesses and putting pretty bows in their hair. Ariana can't do that. She has lost her hair from the chemo she is undergoing. Recently her blood count became so low they had to (once again) pull her out of school. If it gets much lower she'll have to (once again) be put in the hospital. She has no energy, and she has sores in her little mouth.

Leukemia spares nobody. Not even little children.

Please consider helping little Ariana and others like her. Every dollar really does help.

Way to go Niki for all you are doing to raise funds for this worthy organization!

    Donna!

Thank you so much for your support! It means so much to everyone out there battling blood cancer. So far my North Dallas chapter has raised 100,000 (and probably more since it has been a week since our update) to help those currently struggling with this disease.

Below I have posted my letter I sent out for support. I am so grateful for everyone who has donated and I have now gone above and beyond my fundraising goal and I have met my personal deadline too! Of course donations are still accepted and it gives me great joy to know that we are helping so many people!

    Dear Friends and Family,

One would think that having six kids and trying to settle in Dallas with my husband that I would have enough on my plate with laundry, meals, softball, soccer and so on…but no, I had to go sign up to run a ½ marathon too!! This May I will be participating in the Hills and Heels Half Marathon to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training. It was last July that I started kicking up my heels to get into shape to chase after my kids and relieve some stress from my very busy days. Then my friend in Seattle told me all about Team in Training and how she was running to raise money for a very worthy cause and I just knew I had to be a part.

It’s hard to believe that this April will mark the 14th year of my dad’s passing from leukemia. Steve Breeser was an amazing inspiration. His commitment to God, family, and the preservation of wildlife here in America lives on in his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his beloved friends and the many refuges he served so faithfully. It is in his honor that I am running this race.

I am writing you because I am asking for your help. I am asking that you help me reach my goal of 1,800. If you donate $2.00 a mile ($26.20) or be a t-shirt sponsor (donate $60+ and your name will be written on my t-shirt I wear at the starting line) I know I can reach my goal by race time!

It is with my dad’s memory and the knowledge of all the other individuals who are battling blood cancers today that I am committed to run this marathon. Here in America every 4 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone dies. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please consider making a donation to support my participation in Team in Training and help advance LLS's mission. The easiest way to donate is by visiting my webpage http://pages.teamintraining.org/ntx/ntrails10/ntschirgi.

My goal is to raise all my funds by April 4, a little over a month before race time and also the anniversary of my dad’s passing.

I hope you will visit my website often! Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
